April 26th The architect's "Work in Progress" notes for this week say, "Ledger angles are going up for the deck. Bar joist and decking are going down in various parts of the building. Concrete anchor bolts at the shade ramada. The concrete bond beam at the South Patio will potentially be poured on Wednesday. The Architect instructed the Contractor to steel trowel, vibrate the forms very well, provide a hard steel trowel finish and a light broom. Additionally, the bond beam should slope away from the building at the same grade as the paving plane so that water drains off the bond beam. Trenching in the parking lot. Electrical is being put in at the East Patio. Coiling security grille door will be in place soon. Architect notes that care should be taken not to hit radiant tubing when anchoring columns in for the security grille. (Subcontractor) came out to review the location of HVAC sound attenuators."

April 10 We don't have the architect's field report for last week yet. But we can certainly tell you that not much real work got done on Monday, April 10th: we were busy having a party. This was the symbolic topping out of the steel skeleton. The Friends of the Library, library staff, library board, donors, city councilors and legislators were all on hand, in their hardhats, to celebrate. The construction guys waiting patiently around the periphery to raise the symbolic piece--and then got back to work.

April 3 New work this week: Curb and gutters are continuing along the parking lot. The islands and lamppost bases were poured and more curb and gutter is being formed. Structural steel and steel decking and bridging is continuing. Steel framing around the perimeter is still in progress. Concrete is going up at the trash enclosure as well as at the west wall of the Children’s Patio. Hot boxes are complete with the exception of their being connected electrically. The lower portion of the block retaining wall up to the bond beam has been set at the South Patio.

March 27 Electricians Will Follow... "New Work" this week sounds kind of boring: "Curb and gutter is being formed at the east side of the parking area. Light pole bases are being poured. The pour for the curb and gutter is scheduled for tomorrow (that was Tuesday) at 7:00 a.m. Plumbers are installing the hot boxes. Electricians will follow. Concrete block has been delivered today, and work will start on the retaining wall for the Children’s Patio. Joists and decking is continuing to go up. Structural steel at the portals is being installed. Sprinkler sleeving will be installed in the drive areas in the next day or so. Proof rolling was... done in the parking area." But the visuals are dynamite. The front entranceway has been defined in steel:

March 20 Onward... March 20th 'Work in Progress': "Joist and deck are up over the Young Adult and Reference areas. Perimeter load-bearing walls are being framed and the exterior perimeter is about 1/3 complete. Structural steel is mostly up with the exception of the gable in the entrance and a few other areas. The child seating area has been poured... Curb and gutter will start soon in the area on the northeast portion of the parking lot."

March 13 Top-Out Party Scheduled!! In the architects' field report for the 13th the 'Work in Progress' section is extremely concise. "Structural steel, steel trusses on site this week, steel studs." Then there are paragraphs and paragraphs about 'General Issues'-- drains, fire sprinklers, cisterns, parking lot details, electrical closet, artists' meeting for interior design. But here's the big news: we are planning a Top Out Party on April 10!!! Stay tuned for details.
