October 30th The Architects' Field Report for October 30 mentions the following work in progress: "Drywall, taping, and texture. Exterior windows are placed. Operable units are being fabricated in the shop. Electric operator motors are being installed. Bathroom tile is being set and grouted. A sample of grout stain was provided, but does not seem to have any durability. The boiler room is complete with the exception of dampers, which are on order. Colored concrete and other exterior flatwork are being poured. Electrical work is ongoing. Floor outlets are being moved. Scratch and brown coat are being put on the exterior of the building. Some color coat is in place. EPDM roofing is being patched. Metal roofing is being installed. Crusher fines are being installed in the patios. HVAC controls are being installed. Paint is being applied. Soffits and screen wall siding are on site. Millwork is underway in shop and on site. Cisterns are being delivered and will be placed this week. Artwork fascia panels have been applied to the substrate and will be installed this week." |

October 30th We had a little hard-hat tour of Southside Library on the 30th. Going in the front door...

October 23th The Architect's Field Report for the Southside Library mentions the following "Work in progress: a. Drywall, taping, and texture. b. Exterior windows are placed. c. Bathroom tile is being set and grouted. Grout should be gray color. The boiler room is complete; combustion air should be done tomorrow. Concrete flatwork is in progress at the north side. Planters are being poured today. Smooth trowel top is required. Electrical work is ongoing. Scratch and brown coat are being put on the exterior of the building. Some color coat is in place. h. EPDM roofing and coping are being installed. They expect to finish EPDM tomorrow and begin metal roof. i. Crusher fines are being installed in the patios. j. HVAC controls are being installed. k. Paint is being applied. No additional red or blue paint will be utilized at accent walls. The red will be utilized below chair rails and control joints only in the lobby, main reading areas, and meeting room. There will be no accent color on the west wall above the public use computers; that wall will be white. l. Soffits and screen wall siding are on site. m. Millwork is underway in shop and on site."

October 23th In addition, it lists the following "WORKERS ON SITE: Electrical crew, HVAC crew, Plumbing crew, Stucco crew, Drywall workers, Glazing crew, Concrete crew, Tectum crew, Grading crew, Sheetrock taping crew, Painters, Masons, Landscapers, Roofers, Asphalt crew." Whew!

Concrete flatwork is in progress on the outside. The Children’s steps have been formed. f. Electrical work is ongoing. g. Scratch and brown coat are being put on the exterior of the building. Some color coat is in place. h. EPDM roofing and coping are being installed. i. Tectum is being installed. j. Base course asphalt is being installed in the parking areas. k. Crusher fines are being installed in the patios. l. HVAC controls are being installed. m. Paint is being applied."

Bathroom tile backer board is going up. Tile is being set. d. The boiler room is being fitted out. e. Concrete flatwork is in progress on the outside patios and around the building. More curb and gutter work is being done. f. Minor electrical work is ongoing. g. Scratch and brown coat are being put on the exterior of the building. Some color coat is in place. h. Some gas line work underway. i. Tectum is being installed. j. Stone has been set."

October 2nd It was hard to see progress in the weekly Southside Library images, so we let them go by without posting for a couple of weeks. And voila!!

The boiler room is being fitted out. Concrete flatwork is in progress on the outside patios and around the building. More curb and gutter work is being done. Minor electrical work is ongoing. Scratch and brown coat are being put on the exterior of the building. Some color coat is in place. Some gas line work underway.

September 18th The Architect's Field Report for the Southside Library mentions the following Work In Progress: "A partial lath inspection was completed on the north and west portion of the building. Scratch and Brown are underway at north and west walls. Data runs are that are being installed have been halted. Power is being installed. Steel framing moment welds have been inspected. Interior barrel vaults framing is underway. Sound Insulation is underway. Wet blown insulation is complete. Sound batts are being installed. Roofing for the electrical data room has been completed. Study rooms remain to be roofed. Window frames are going in. They are in place in the clerestory windows. Concrete crews will be pouring exterior flatwork and curb and gutter. Plumbers working on gas line in roof and in boiler room." We are looking at a late January, 2007, opening.

September 18th "Materials on site: Steel fence; Steel Misc; Hollow metal doors; Duct insulation; TRESPA toilet partitions; Stucco lathing materials, stucco, sand; Data wire; Glazing; Drywall, taping wind; Aluminum window frames."

September 11th A lot of what appears in the architect's September 11 Field Report for Southside Library sounds familiar. Bit by bit these tasks move forward: "Work in progress: A partial lath inspection was completed on the north and west portion of the building. Ducts rough in is now complete. Data runs are that are being installed have been halted. Power is being installed. Steel framing is almost complete. Interior walls are being framed. The supply and return hot water runs for the heating system are being run. Rock and block at the East Patio has been done. Wet blown insulation is complete. Batt insulation is underway. Batt insulation has been approved to be installed in the areas that will not have drywall. This will be done after gypsum board is installed. Roofing for the electrical data room has been completed. None of the roof miscellaneous metal is complete. Window frames are going in at the west and north walls. They are in place in the Children’s west wall and the Multi-purpose west wall. Cistern and sleeving work will be going on. Concrete crews will be pouring exterior flatwork."

September 5th It's going to be harder to discern progress from week to week as the action at Southside Library moves indoors. For one thing, until the lights are installed it's a bit dark in there...
