Southwest Collection

southwest reading room Materials about the Southwest, New Mexico and nearby states that have cultural and historical ties to New Mexico are included in the Southwest Collection.

The Library seeks books from small presses, local presses and local authors to represent Santa Fe and New Mexico. Of first priority is non-fiction, including biographies, as well as fiction of significance. Many books are rare or out-of-print. This collection is a favorite of researchers.

The Library also has a circulating collection in this room of many of the same works. From Tony Hillerman to Ricardo Caté to Kit Carson, all can be found in the Southwest Room.

The Southwest reading room was designed by famed Santa Fe architect, John Gaw Meem, and features hardwood floors, wooden cases, hand-designed table lamps, chairs and tables, as well as tinwork chandeliers.
