More about this list...     If we were to lump non-fiction books together by author or by subject-- as for example Michael Moore's titles, or David Sedaris' titles, or the Dalai Lama's titles; or travel guides by country, or political and social-issue titles-- the order of this list would be quite different. Overall, travel books and political books alone represent an astonishing proportion of our readers' non-fiction interests.
For the first time we have a DVD on the list, Insectia.
Many of these entries are books new in the last year or two, but certainly not all. Of course, while a book is still on the 7-day circulation shelves, its numbers pile up much faster; as do the numbers for those books with plenty of copies. We could easily circulate several more copies each of such old favorites as The people's history of the United States or Adobe angels : the ghosts of Santa Fe and Taos or A child called "it"; or new favorites such as Eckhart Tolle's The power of now or Spanish in 32 lessons or Chris Wilson's The myth of Santa Fe : creating a modern regional tradition. If we could have bought enough to saturate the demand, these and many others of the titles above would have circulated even more than they did.
The way the list was generated did a certain amount of useful lumping, what amounts to a
sideways 'popular subject' list:
the several titles which begin with (in order of frequency)
:
New Mexico
Santa Fe
Mexico
Snakes
America the beautiful (series of books about the states)
Italy
Spiders
Volcanoes
France
Georgia O'Keeffe
Ancient Greece
Sharks
Spain
Japan
Dolphins
Penguins
India
Trains
Maya
Bats
Earth
Anne Frank
Tigers
Yoga
China
Islam
Georgia O'Keeffe
Frida Kahlo
Halloween
Hawaii
Rattlesnakes
Mammal
Ancient Egypt
Australia
