I'm William Francis Karnoscak, and my husband/partner of nearly 45 years and I have lived in Santa Fe for 3 years; although we've been coming to North-Central New Mexico nearly that long.  I'm originally from Chicago, but have also lived in Austin, Texas; and Danbury, Connecticut.

In first grade, we were allowed to go to the library once a week for an hour.  I checked out as many books each week as possible (I think the maximum was four).  At the end of the fall term, my parents received a letter from the school principal (a nun) stating that William hadn't returned any of the 48 books he checked out since the school year started.  My parents were appalled.  Ironically, I had re-shelved them each week upon visiting the school library, not realizing there was record keeping (checking in the books, officially) to be accomplished.  So in fact, there were no books left unreturned.  I wanted to join the Library Board because I am a (retired) professional librarian (MLIS, Dominican Univ., 1992), and wanted to lend my energy and expertise to the public library in my new hometown.

I'm always asked what my favorite book is, and no well-read librarian can really narrow it down to one, but I'll cite two:  Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, (1994) by Anne Lamott; and A Susan Sontag Reader, (1982) by Susan Sontag.  I prefer the non-fiction and essay genres primarily.  It gives me insight into the writer's thought process.
