Child Welfare in NM: Challenges and Opportunities

New Mexico consistently ranks last in measures of child well-being, and children who have experienced maltreatment face the worst outcomes. Over 50% of homeless individuals have a foster care history. This presentation by the CASA First team, and Executive Director Annie Rasquin, will share what they are doing, and what you can do to prevent today’s youth from being tomorrow’s unhoused.

CASA First provides court-appointed advocacy for children in foster care as well as Abrigo Advocates and Youth Ambassadors prevention programs. We’ll share some of the techniques we use to support stability and functioning for children who have experienced maltreatment, and their families. We’ll also discuss trauma symptoms, what that looks like in toddlers, children and youth and protective factors.

Our vision is that every infant, child, and youth in New Mexico is safe, has a joyful childhood, and the opportunity to flourish.
