Building with adobe "mud bricks" is a construction form that dates back thousands of years. In the Southwest, adobe homes, tapias (walls), bancos, and hornos are treasured and add to the mystique and beauty of any residence. In this lecture & slideshow class, participants will be introduced to the beginning steps of how to build small yard projects using adobe bricks.
Topics covered will include: building a good base (foundation) for your project, finding the right mix of raw materials from your yard (dirt, sand) for your adobe bricks, creating simple wood forms for your adobes, simple mud plastering techniques, and ideas for small adobe projects.
The class will be taught by Gino Brazil, who since the early 1990's has used adobe to create a number of house and yard projects. Special guest presenter will be Antonio Martinez, who specialized in the renovation of adobe churches in the southwest.
