The Feldenkrais Method for Reducing Pain and Improving Movement
What is the Feldenkrais Method?
The Feldenkrais Method is somatic movement education. We are learning how to move all over again. The process we went through as infants/children to learn how to move is the same process we go through as adults to improve our movement. This learning process is hard-wired into our system. The Feldenkrais Method utilizes the brain and body’s innate ability of learning how to move and heal to create new neural pathways through sensory awareness in movement.
Everyone has developed movement patterns and habits that influence their ability to move with ease. The Feldenkrais Method 1) creates a context for people to become aware of their movement patterns and habits through slow, mindful movement, and 2) enables people to discover easier ways of moving that reduce strain and effort. It is every person’s birthright to feel comfortable within themselves and to develop into their fullest potential. Our movement is meant to feel good and easy.
Because of this, Feldenkrais reaches nearly everyone of all ages and abilities- athletes, musicians, dancers, actors, infants, pregnant women, elderly, people with chronic pain, injury, a disability or degenerative condition and more. All of life is movement. That is what the Feldenkrais Method is improving- your ability to move.
Serina Carrasco is a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner dedicated to helping people discover their innate capacity for movement and healing. Learn more about Serina Carrasco and the Feldenkrais Method at serinacarrasco.com.
