Calling all Jane Austen Fans! Come celebrate literary superstar Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday at the Southside Library. There will be a tea party, a sewing craft, period games, and a film screening. Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes.
There will be a display in the library for discovering the rich collection of materials by Jane Austen or related to her work. In recent times, there are have a number of derivative works such as mystery series, parodies, modern day retellings, movie adaptations and retellings, and more.
Throughout the afternoon and evening you can enjoy tea and a variety of baked goods. You can try your hand at one of the period games or create a sewing craft to take with you. At 5:30pm, we will screen the 1995 movie Sense and Sensibility, which features a star studded cast including Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant. The film won Emma Thompson a best screenplay Oscar.
