River Talks 2025 - From Source to Mouth: Get to Know the Santa Fe River Watershed

River Talk #4:

Water in the Desert - Impacts of Development on Watershed Function

This lecture is the fourth event of the River Talk Series 2025. It will discuss how we manage stormwater in the desert, how development impacts hydrology, and permitting requirements.

The 7th annual River Talks series, hosted by the City of Santa Fe's River and Watershed Section, invites the community to explore the lifeblood of our community, the Santa Fe River and its watershed, through a season of free, dynamic programming. From August through October 2025, join us on Wednesdays and Saturdays for an immersive journey from source to supply, featuring expert-led lectures, guided hikes, and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours.

This year’s series offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with the people and places shaping the future of our water. Participants will explore the complex issues facing our watershed. Highlights include guided tours of Santa Fe’s drinking water treatment facilities, where raw water from the Santa Fe River and Buckman Direct Diversion is transformed into clean, safe drinking water and our wastewater treatment plant, which plays a vital role in cleaning and reclaiming water for reuse.

Designed to inspire awareness, connection, and action, River Talks empowers residents to become stewards of our most precious resource.
