The Legacy of J. Paul Taylor and New Mexico’s 8th State Monument

On November 8, 2025 the Taylor-Mesilla Historic site opened in southern New Mexico. The eighth state monument is located four miles from Las Cruces in the village of Mesilla. The historic site is the culmination of the visionary Doña Ana’s statesman J. Paul Taylor. The Taylor-Romero family legacy dates back to the first Spanish settlement in New Mexico.

Join Ana Pacheco, the former Santa Fe City Historian (2015 to 2017), for her monthly presentations as she delves into four centuries of Santa Fe history. Through her thirty-three years as a writer and historian Pacheco has created books, articles, blogs, videos, and five-star walking tours of her beloved hometown. In the last three decades she has pieced together the puzzle that makes Santa Fe the most historically significant city in the U. S.
